Operation Valkyrie The Assassination Attempt Against The...

Operation Valkyrie was one of the closest assassination attempts on Hitler that anyone ever came got and it was also the last. Claus Von Stauffenberg, a colonel in the German Wehrmacht, was to play a leading role in the assassination attempt against the Fà ¼hrer. Von Stauffenberg and the other members of the July Plot had many reasons why they wanted Hitler dead, but the most important was saving Germany. It was no longer a matter of loyalty to the leader and the Nazi ideology. They had seen the atrocities first hand and knew it was now a matter of loyalty and duty to their fellow countrymen. Von Stauffenberg and countless others, since Hitler’s initial rise to power, formed the German resistance, a group that took root in the early days of Hitler’s rise to power. The goal of Operation Valkyrie was to take out Hitler, establish a military takeover, and surrender to the allies. It wasn’t a matter of if Germany would fall, but when. Von Stauffenberg wanted to sav e the lives of thousands, if not millions, by ending the war. He and his fellow conspirators would die trying.
